fall into fashion

September 4th, 2006

Everyone has a favorite time of year and the time of year that people prefer largely depends on geographic location. Some people live where the climate barely changes between seasons while others reside where it changes drastically, sometimes within the same season.  I can tell you that in the lovely state of Indiana, we deal with such changes and the change in seasons that is rapidly approaching in my state is that of summer to fall.  This is my favorite time of year.  The leaves change color, overly motivated students return to school too naïve to realize they’ll be praying for fall break, Starbucks starts selling seasonal favorites like pumpkin spice lattes and yummy pumpkin scones etc…  These are the signs that only affirm the fact that yes, fall is coming.  For me it is a very cozy time of year, which in my opinion highlights some of the year’s most fabulous fashion.

I love super sophisticated fall coats and purses to match.  The combination of a flawless fall coat with just the right purse is one of the easiest and most anticipated looks of any season, simply because it is so easy to look good in it.  It is very possible for a woman to walk down the street wearing a plaid skirt circa “Hit Me Baby One More Time,” accompanied by a wrinkled white button up shirt with a black bra underneath and never be suspected as a fashion disaster simply because she was covering up that mess with a fabulous fall coat and accessorizing with an even more fabulous fall bag.  The look just does something for me.  When I see fall coats like those in Anthropologies’ fall 2006 line paired with a rich-fall-inspired tote or bag, I am automatically taken back to fashion goddesses like Jackie O and Audrey Hepburn who designers continute to turn to for inspiration on line after line.  jackieoThere is a reason that we women continue to revert back to this ultra sophisticated look, and that is that these women of fashion before us just got it.  Far be it from us to try and reinvent the wheel when it comes to a look as classic and clean as this.  So here is to all of the hot chocolate to be drank and scones to be eaten while having the ability to conceal any evidence of consumption that may appear in the form of a tiny bit of weight gain under a fashionable fall coat & purse combo.
