belated Earth day
April 25th, 2007
This past week for me was crazy and imagine my guilt when I realized that I completely missed Earth Day 2007! Now, being that I am one who always tries to recycle and tries to pass on the sleeve at Starbucks (unless it’s a venti), I didn’t feel terribly guilty but none the less, I felt it needed to be addressed. Doing the right thing for the environment and fashion are two things that I fear do not always go so well together. Take the seatbelt handbag, for example; not exactly fashion forward. Or, you could look at the recycled candy wrapper bag; also not such a hot fashion statement. But respecting this wonderful planet that we all call home is extremely important and for that reason (paired with a smidgen of guilt over missing it) here are a couple eco-friendly fashion bits that I came across and get an A in the efforts of trying to keep our planet beautiful!

Students at Delta College in Michigan put on an Earth Day Fashion Show and this dress made from recycled buttons was one featured at the event. Students showcased all of their home-made fashion creations at the event which is utilized as a tool to help raise awareness of environmental issues.

The fine folks at Planet Earth have created a line of clothing that is 100% organic. The organic cotton is grown “without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides” and creates clothes that are just as wearable and fashionable as synthetic cotton. The look is urban chic and very cute for casual wear, plus you feel good wearing it.
