any other picky mothers?

April 27th, 2007

I realize that Mother’s Day is not until May 13th, but I have found that I am already stressing over what to get my amazing mother this year.  First off, let me just say that my mother is not one of those women who you can simply walk into a local salon or departmenmomtattoobabyt store and purchase a nice bottle of perfume, lotion, etc… for.  She likes to choose her own scents and will have no qualms with simply shelving your bottle of lotion in her bathroom cabinet where it can serve as a reminder of what a horrible gift giver you were that year, every time that you visit.  This is unintentional, of course; it’s just that with my mother, she likes what she likes and she buys it when she wants it.  I totally love this about her by the way, but it makes it extremely difficult for me to purchase meaningful gifts for her.  In trying to decide what I should go for this year, a few options have crossed my mind that I am still milling over and I thought maybe I’d share them with you just in case you were in such a situation yourself this Mother’s Day.
First, I could treat her to a massage.  Salons offer excellent gift packages for Mother’s Day and what mother wouldn’t love getting a rub down?  I thought that taking her to a nice brunch (or preparing one for her) after her relaxing massage might be a great addition to that gift as well.

Second, I could go for a new pair of shoes.  She is an absolute freak over pedicures and summer shoes (and showing off the pedicures in the summer shoes).  So, I thought maybe I’d pick up a couple pair of fun sandals that could accompany many different looks.  My only reservation on this is, I know how much I enjoy shopping for my own shoes and trying all of them on and she is just as big of a shoe shopper as I.  I would hate to take away that high one feels once she finds the perfect pair of shoes after trying on several.

Third, she has a fantastic Coach bag that she has been toting for a few months now and it is quite a large bag.  I have noticed that the bag is perfect for her work week but on the weekends it sort of becomes a nuisance to her.  Hence, I might go and seek out a smaller sized designer handbag that she could carry on such occasions.  One woman can never have too many handbags, right?  This one is a good one too because she doesn’t quite get into bags as much as she does shoes, so she might view this as me lifting a responsibility from her.  So there they are, my three ideas, thus far.  Nothing is set in stone yet, so by all means, throw your suggestions/ideas/comments my way.  I could use all the help I could get!

[…] So, I have still been pondering my Mother’s Day gift under the complete realization that it is approaching ever so quickly and was thinking of possibly going with that handbag route that I was considering back last week.  While browsing the wonderful world wide web, guess what I found?  I handbag made of chocolate and cheesecake.  That is right, I do not lie (especially when it comes to something as serious as chocolate and handbags).  Check it out, pastry chef Susan Morgan of Elegant Cheese Cakes is completely fabulous and brilliant!  Not only did she come up with the fantastic Mother’s Day bag pictured above but she can pretty much replicate any other kind of handbag/shoe that exists.  She does plenty more than cakes that resemble accessories but I was so in love with how adorable her designer handbag cakes truly are!  I am not sure if my mother’s diet would necessarily appreciate me giving her a huge chocolate covered cheesecake as her Mother’s Day gift, so I will probably just go with my gut and get her a smaller designer bag that she can tote easily on the weekends like I had originally planned.  Still though, I had to share because it seems like such a good gift idea for so many occasions and for so many different girlfriends.  I love it when two of my favorite things come together in such a delicious way!  If you are interested in snagging one up for your mummy this Mother’s Day, Nieman Marcus is offering them, or you could buy them directly from the Elegant Cheese Cakes website.  Bookmark to: […]
