Prada Turbans

May 18th, 2007

With the temperature raising daily my hair is surely paying the price; the UV rays are definitely doing a number on my hair. I’ve tried all the precautionary creams and conditioners, but unfortunately have discovered that the only remedy to this problem is not exposing my hair to the sun.  Therefore, I am swayed to favor Miuccia Prada’s newest style of satin turbans, but remain a bit iffy on actually trying it.  Miuccia is the queen bee of fashion, undoubtedly, noticed for her unique trendsetting, but even I have to ask what she was thinking!  All of the models apart of the Prada Spring/Summer 07 collection trotted down the ramp accessorized with these “gem-colored” satin turbans in casual, professional, and elegant ensembles alike.

It was only a matter of time before the turbans would appear in Hollywood, and Whoala J. Lo and the Olsen twins were the firsts spotted trying to pull this look off.  Now I am a die hard fan of Elizabeth Taylor, but this is a bit overboard.  The turbans are probably the most difficult trend to pull off this season because exactly what it can be paired with.  So, after extensive research of flipping through fashion mag after fashion mag, I found some little quirks that matter when trying this look out:

  1. It suits those with more prominent cheek structures and/or needs emphasis added to the cheeks
  2. Looks better with hair falling out instead of all tucked in.  Perhaps try a low ponytail done to one side and slung over the shoulder with your bangs popping out.
  3. The styles that have less of a point in the turban are much easier to work

If you’re like me and like to experiment with new things, but only believe in smart shopping try Forever 21’s version of the turban headdress before you invest some big bucks on the real deal.

But I’m still riding the line because my hair can use the saving, But I can’t pull off any of the tips I mentioned, personally, it’s definitely one of those trends that you have to be extraordinarily drop-dead gorgeous to work right; so I think I’ll ride this wave out sitting on the sidelines!
