60th Annual Cannes Film Festival
May 22nd, 2007
May 16, 2007 marked the beginning of the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival held in the incomparable Cannes, France! The Rat Race is all go for the Palme d’Or with eight films out of competition and twenty-two still in the game. I, personally, was sad to see Steven Soderbergh enter the Feature Films Out of Competition list because Ocean’s Thirteen was one phenomenal sequel, but then again it was a fat chance considering that four Cannes veterans had returned once again to compete, of which all still remain in the competition. But the main buzz of the Cannes 2007 has been the amazing Hollywood star turn out this year. Some of the biggest names of the industry have shown up to bask in one of France’s most beautiful cities and enjoy the excitement. The Red Carpet entertained headliners like Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Elizabeth Hurley, Jessica Simpson, Pamela Anderson, whom the paparazzi have blacklisted for her boorish behavior, now personally I was surprised to hear this since she was there promoting her screening of Blonde and Blonder, which sticks out like a sore thumb in the lineup of films as it is, but anyhow Victoria Silvstedt, Kelly Brook, and Kerry Washington were all spotted on the scene also.
Some of Bollywood’s, which is the film industry of India, biggest names also made an appearance last Saturday including Aishwarya Rai on the arm of new hubby Abhishek Bachchan; who, if I may add, looked just a bit shabby. This was not the case for most of the ladies that trotted the Carpet at Cannes, although, a few fashion fiascos did emerge amongst the bunch; So Abhi wasn’t all alone on that one! You can always leave it to Elizabeth Hurley to look enchantingly elegant; she donned a magnificent apple red gown tastefully simple. She was definitely turning some heads, and with designer Valentino by her side it was almost inevitable. But it seemed that white was THE color all the divas were draping themselves with including: Aishwarya Rai, Kerry Washington, Andie MacDowell, and Kerry Brook all sported some shade of white; this list can go for days, but I think you got my point.
Needless to say they looked nothing less than Fab-u-lous!
It was Jessica Simpson and Chloe Sevigny who were caught looking tasteful one day and tacky the next.

Jessica’s cute black ensemble looked luxe; it pairs the flowy blouse perfectly with a straighter skirt. She had just the right amount of accessories, and I am loving those peep toe pumps. But her outfit choice was not so wonderful the night before when she made an appearance at My Blueberry Nights After Party. The dress didn’t seem to be working for her; the lower back and shorter front thing really wasn’t all that flattering for her. The dress had a nice color combo going, but the stripes were a bit too much. So, there you have it; super-stars have fashion mishaps too! Chloe seemed to be having one ensemble emergency after another. Her dress for the premiere of Zodiac, although, was much better than her casual first appearance was not all that enticing. Your film is in the running for the Palme d’Or of course the eyes are going to be on you; so why not put a little more effort into your look. Chloe looked adorable in the soft blue hue in her premiere dress, but the color of the dress was the only thing going for her. Her bangs could use a bit more shape, her hairstylist should just be fired for that travesty of a hairdo, and the simplicity of the look was too lifeless as a whole. A bit more accessorizing could have saved her ensemble. All in all the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival has had a great turn out this year. Some amazing pieces have been entered, and I am dieing to know which one will be taking home the infamous Palme d’Or.
