MTV 2007 Movie Awards
June 7th, 2007
Gibson Amphitheater was flooded last weekend with all of Hollywood present to watch who would take home MTV 2007 Movie Awards’ Golden Popcorn. Not that I wasn’t fascinated watching Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen lock lips and roll about the stage reenacting and perhaps spicing up the kiss that they had won the Best Kiss Award for; it is really the celebrities’ fashion galore that draws me to my seat year after year. I have got to say that the ladies did a phenomenal job at dressing themselves this year, okay maybe at hiring better stylists, because not one fashion fiasco hit the fuchsia carpet all night.
Eva Mendes looked absolutely stunning in her Dolce & Gabbana halter dress, but then again when doesn’t she look stunning! I loved the simply understated look that she went for.
Cameron Diaz was not far behind in the best dressed roll in her ravishing black polka-dotted Luella micro mini frock. Her metallic heels and glistening clutch weren’t half as blinding as her million dollar smile as she strutted across the carpet!
Rihanna wowed the audience throughout the night! The breathtaking gown she walked the fuchsia carpet in was a masterpiece within itself. The bob cut, isn’t so much for her! Her long flowing tresses flattered her cheek structure much more. Speaking of bob cuts, though, I was loving Victoria Beckham’s edgy touch to the do. But getting back to Rihanna, she then hit the stage alongside Jay-Z to perform to her hit “Umbrella” and set the crowd wild including rival artist Fergie. The night didn’t end there, Rihanna then threw the hottest post-MTV awards party of the night which had originally been to celebrate an album release at Hollywood’s hot spot Sugar.
But as for the guys, it seemed that every which celebrity you can possibly imagine was sporting some fashion don’t or another; it makes me wonder whether all the tailors in Hollywood were on strike? I have one word for you boys- tux- a nice black tuxedo can save you from dawning a hideous style catastrophe.
Robin Williams definitely led the pack in this one! Come on was he serious about the Irish parochial school uniform!
As an obdurate Johnny Depp fan, I have got to say that the man can do no wrong. But the fashionista in me is saying hold on a second here. Depp dawned an uber retro look that evening: it looked as though he simply piled on layers and layers of every thing in his closet! He’s lucky that he has a smile that can take anyone’s breath away!
As far as the awards go for the evening as soon as the clips were shown of all the nominations the winner was clearly evident. So who all took the Golden Popcorn:
*Jack Nicholson won Best Villain for performance in The Departed.
*Best Fight award went to Gerard Butler for battling the Uber Immortal in 300.
*Will Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen of course took Best Kiss home for Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.
*That was not the last of Sacha Baron Cohen for the night, though, because he returned shortly after to collect the award for Best Comedic Performance awarded to him for the hysteria he initiated in Borat.
*Transformers won the Golden Popcorn for Best Summer Movie You Haven’t Seen. It was really too bad that Fergie’s beau, beefcake Josh Duhamel, didn’t come up to accept the award alongside director Michael Bay.
*The one and only Johnny Depp took home the most prized Golden Popcorn of the night- The Best Performance awarded for his incomparable performance as Captain Jack Sparrow in The Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest.
*He returned to the stage momentarily when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest won Best Movie.
