The New Face of Converse

Common has been an inspiration from the day that his first hip hop album premiered.  His lyrics have always seemed far more like poetic healing for the modern day ears than like a beat to move to.  He has outdone himself this time around by partnering up with footwear conglomerate- Converse- to raise funds for AIDS benefits.  Common is officially the poster child for Converse’s newest line “Red.”  The Fall 2007 campaign for Converse Red has been titled “Weapon of Change” which will feature “irreverent messages and bold illustrations encouraging consumers to be optimistic rebels and become agents of change.”  The premiere look includes a series of black and white images- quite picturesque!

 

The campaign is expected to appear in magazines early next month, and can be expected to stick around until the month of September.  Out-door advertising is also expected to emerge with out-of-home billboards, wild postings, and bus shelters in metropolitan area including Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City. 

Converse Red Weapons can be purchased for the announced amount of $75.00 at the Converse website (www.converse.com) or exclusively at Foot Locker, Footaction, and Champs Sports locations.  A low-top Converse Red Weapon Ox is also available with a suggested retail price of $70.  It seems that humanitarianism has become the flavor of the season with everyone out and about doing good deeds; it’s about time that Hollywood puts its stardom to use for something other than causing eating disorders amongst adolescents.
