So, I am back with more tips on how to be sun smart. Due to global warming the risks of skin cancers have increased dramatically, and we need to protect ourselves from the harmful effects of the sun. So, I am going to suggest a few little things that will help lower the risk of skin cancer.

Sun block is the most important product to insure your skin is protected. I trust Coppertone Sport as my sunscreen because of its Patented Ultra sweat-proof formula bonds to the skin so it won’t run in the eyes and cause stinging as do many other women surveyed by iVillage Beauty. It also has a no slip formula to reduce the greasy feeling that many sun blocks give. It has a high SPF, and is waterproof; so I am guaranteed protection for a reasonable amount of time. Despite that being the case the secret to effective sun protection is the reapplication of sunscreen every few hours, so that your bare skin is never fully exposed to the harsh UV rays.

So Remember Reapply, Reapply, and Reapply!

Now, we are going to talk about protecting a different part of your face that many people don’t even consider- your Lips!

Ellen Marmur, MD, chief of dermatologic and cosmetic surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center says that we should use products that have sunscreen in them with a zinc-oxide base instead of swiping a little actual sunscreen over our lips as that can lead to irritation. Something with an SPF of 30+ like Blistex Advanced Care Lip Balm, which includes sunscreen and antioxidants. You wouldn’t want to put that pucker in jeopardy, so instead of glossing up in the mornings reach for that chapstick.

If Cataracts or eye growths like pingueculae or pterygia do look so appealing to you than you may want to splurge on a pair of sunglasses, let me rephrase that a pair that actually work to block the sun not just shade your eyes. The best protection would be found in purchasing sunglasses that block at least 98% of the UVA and UVB rays. Sunglasses that have polycarbonate, glass or plastic (CR-39) lenses can claim to block 100% of the UV rays. Something similar to the Dior Oversized Aviator pair would be ideal as they block 100% of rays.

When spending time in the sun remember to take these things along with you as a must. In fact throw in a sexy little one piece, which are all the rave right now, and a fashionable tote to carry all of it in and you have yourself everything you need for a nice day at the beach. You know what that actually sounds like just what I need, a nice day out in my new wine ruched one-piece and all my sun smart products nicely packed into my Forzieri Large Tote.
