Swimsuit Hunting

July 13th, 2007

I’ve been invited to a nice little barbeque at the lakeside this weekend, and have come to the realization that my ruched one piece is not exactly appropriate for the occasion.  I have never been the flesh flaunting kind of chic, and especially not when I am going to be building up a first impression amongst new faces.  So, my search for a flattering yet reserved swimsuit has me all riled up considering that it is coming up in a few days, and I have visited every place in the 30 mile radius that carries any sort of swimwear. So, I did what any intelligent fashionista would do- browsed online fashion-connection sites for a few tippers on what of swimsuit would be suitable.  I didn’t exactly find what I was looking for, but have acquired a vas knowledge of swimwear and the hottest trends in them.

Ashley Paige’s collection in the Miami Swim 2008 was the most intriguing to say the least.  She made trash look surprisingly tasteful with “The models channeled country bumpkins with pigtails, sloppy side ponytails, and messy locks. The mix of country music overalls, checker print suits, and mismatched brights was a humorous take on swimwear.”

As fun as the look was it wasn’t quite what I was looking for; something like Rebecca Virtue’s “the art of swim” pieces were much more along the lines of what I find glamorous.  Well, she mixed my two true loves, fashion and art, in this year’s 1960’s modern art movement inspired collection; so, of course I was bound to love it.  The part bikini and part dress piece was absolutely to die for!

It was amazingly elegant and the perfect thing to pack along to an upscale poolside bash!  Too bad I can’t get my hands on one in time; so, I’ve gone for the next best thing a lux sheer tunic from Victoria Secret’s to go over my black silver accented bikini.  All I can say is that all else may fail, but Victoria’s will never let you down!  The tunic/bikini pair allows me to be prepared for the afternoons festivities and hold a certain level of sass and class too!  What more can a girl ask for?
I am a bit stumped, though, would it be a better idea to embrace the concept of swimwear when pulling out a bag to go with or up-play my “little black dress” inspired look?  If I go with the beachy look than a tote would be appropriate- I’m thinking perhaps my Large Fendi Tote.  It will be spacious enough to hold my towel and sun protection necessities- remember practice Safe Sun- and to be completely honest is just too cute to not show off!  On the other hand, my Nannini Shoulder Bag is special to me too.  The bag’s very design is perfect: its going to add extra oomph to my ensemble because of its complementary color scheme and the poor thing’s been bundled up in its dust bag for much too long!  We’ll see, though, I’ve got another day to ponder over it!
