Yohji Yamamoto Has A Surprise For All of Us

August 1st, 2007

Yohji Yamamoto has been wowing the fashion world for decades now!  The seven strings of the label have all been utterly successful, which in part is because of the line’s tendency to tend into the unknown bounds of fashion.  Yamamoto has now crossed into the domain of fine jewelry, and his debuting collection, Stormy Weather, is enough to drop any fashionista to her knees.  Stormy Weather debuted together, but in actuality is a summation of three different miniature collections including: the Moon Collection, Le Cri collection, and the Drops collection.  The collections “are unified by palette and recurring pearl motif.”  The cornerstone of this collection is Yamamoto’s poetic usage and placement of stunning South Sea cultured pearls, Akoya cultured pearls, and Black South Sea cultured pearls placed into 18K white and yellow gold, silver, throwing in black rhodium, quartz and diamonds.  Others responsible for this amazing collection were Parisian artist and designer Annabelle d’Huart, and of course Mikimoto for tapping an amazing visionary like Yamamoto on the shoulder for this project.  The collection is set to appear in display windows in November of this year in Mikimoto and Yohji Yamamoto boutiques in their Europe, American, and Japan locations.  As another surprise a Yohji Yamamoto flagship is opening in New York on Gansevoort Street this winter also; so everyone book those tickets now because the saved cha-ching will be useful when you hit the Yamamoto shop!  Considering that the least adorned piece which is a small diamond, 18K white gold, and black rhodium pendant out of the Drops collection is for $1,550 all the way up to a $8,200 for a South Sea cultured pearls, Black South Sea cultured pearls, Akoya cultured pearls, diamonds, 18K white gold, and 18K yellow gold pendant apart of the Moon collection.  I’ve been eyeing that pendant from the Le Cri collection to go with an evening dress and Dolce & Gabbana handbag ensemble I have hanging in my closest; my birthday’s coming up here shortly- so it might just be a possibility and that alone has me setting on Cloud-9!

The moon collection is very artistic, but isn’t it a bit much? I cannot think of any place that is worth wearing a 9 grand necklace to. I guess it is not for Normal people
