Kate Moss Sphinx
August 7th, 2007
British artist, Marc Quinn has been a very busy man lately. Last year he wowed thousands of art fantastic with his art show featuring Sphinx sculptures of Kate Moss in yoga positions, which toured the world. This year he is adding to the collection, and has created another Sphinx sculpture of the exuberantly radiant super model in similar posses. This Sphnix is ten feet of white-painted bronze beauty. The piece is set to be unveiled at a auction of contemporary sculpture at Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. This piece is different from its earlier counterparts; Kate Moss was much less enthusiastic about this one. Well, she has seen it and done it; so, as we all know moving on is the next half. Then again the pieces aren’t drastically different in that the same tactics were used to create both; the sculpture is portional to Kate Moss’s but the physical inspiration of the piece came from another model in those posses. Not that I do not realize the artistic beauty behind Quinn’s work, but it’s difficult for me to see a fashion icon without anything fashionable. To me it seems a little like the identity that is Kate Moss is missing when she doesn’t have a Scervino Satchel draped over her arm while in sporting some fab threads! That’s just me I guess; I like art to capture the essence of what it represents.
